Surprising healing properties of apples!

An apple a day could literally keep the doctor away.


Apples are delicious and refreshing fruits that are used in a variety of dishes or enjoyed right off of the tree.  Though apples and their juice is loved for the sweet amazing flavor, the impact that apples have on your health may be surprising as well.  Nutrition is nature's health insurance!


  • Weight loss:  A study out of Brazil concluded that women who consumed 3 apples or pears a day and dieted lost more weight than women who dieted and didn't eat the fruit.
  • Breast cancer prevention:  A Cornell University study found that rats fed apples every day had a decreased chance developing breast cancer.  The greater amount of apples the rate were fed, the lower the risk of breast cancer.
  • Alzheimer's prevention:  A Cornell University study on mice found that the quercetin in apples may protect the brain from the type of free radical damage that could cause Alzheimer's disease.
  • Bone protection:  French researchers found that a flavanoid called phloridzin that is found only in apples may protect post-menopausal women from osteoporosis and could increase bone density as well.  Apples also contain boron, another bone strengthening compound. 
  • Diabetes management:  The pectin in apples supplies galacturonic acid to the body which lowers the body's need for insulin and could aid in the management of diabetes.
  • Asthma:  A recent study concluded that children who consume apple juice daily suffer from the symptoms of asthma less than those who did not.  Another study showed that children born to women who consume a lot of apples had a lower rate of asthma than those born to mothers who ate less apples.

Did you know that aspartame can mix with other chemicals such as monosodium glutamate and cause even worst reactions within the body?  Aspartame has been linked to several different cancers and even degenerative brain conditions.  Consuming aspartame regularly will burn out neurons and has been linked to headaches, mood alterations and even brain tumors.  Although it is touted as a healthy and sweeter alternative to sugar, this chemical actually causes diabetes and may also cause obesity.  If you are surprised than maybe consider the fact that aspartame was developed in a bio-weapons lab!  And what's more, part of the process for manufacturing aspartame is to harvest excrement from bacteria and treat it with more chemicals.  Unfortunately this chemical, originally sold by Monsanto Corp, is now being re-branded under different names to avoid the reputation behind the poison.  There are currently efforts underway to include aspartame in milk without labeling it, even though aspartame is contained in many products already that do not list it as one of the ingredients.  Next time you are shopping, be weary of "light" or "diet" products in the grocery isle, and make sure you check the ingredients.

Soda and weight gain

Soft drinks are hard on your health.


Regular consumption of sodas leads to cavities, weight gain, diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis, and scores of other health conditions.  Instead of juice or water, most children in some more developed countries are turning to soft drinks.when they are thirsty.  The excessive amounts of phosphorus in most soft drinks causes bone problems especially to women who are prone to osteoporosis.  Diet sodas are often just as bad or worst, often containing aspartame, an artificial sweetener that is linked to several types of cancer and is even believed to cause weight gain and increase the chances of developing diabetes.  Even the caramel color is now being found to have carcinogenic properties.  Next time you are thirsty, try brewing some green tea and add a touch of raw honey, or a glass of carrot juice with a shot of fresh squeezed orange and lemon juice mixed in for a toxin busting citris punch.  The health choices we make now determine if we can prevent heart disease, diabetes, and bone problems.  Remember that nutrition is nature's health insurance.

Fish oil:  There is some data that suggests the DHA in fish oil helps to lower high blood pressure.

Hawthorn:  A trial involving 79 patients with type 2 diabetes taking a 1200 mg daily supplement of hawthorn for 16 weeks showed that those taking the herb had a significant reduction in diastolic blood pressure.








Remember, regular exercise, healthy fats such as those found in avocados and coconut oils, and avoiding fast food can help prevent heart disease and will lessen the chances of you having to pay extra for health insurance down the road.  Lifestyle choices make all the difference and prevention is the best way to preserve your quality of life.
