Kids are heavy consumers of soft drinks, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and they are guzzling soda pop at unprecedented rates.
Carbonated soda pop provides more added sugar in a typical 2-year-old toddler's diet than cookies, candies and ice cream combined.

Fifty-six percent of 8-year-olds down soft drinks daily, and a third of teenage boys drink at least three cans of soda pop per day.
  • These popular beverages account for more than a quarter of all drinks consumed in the United States.
  • More than 15 billion gallons were sold in 2000.
  • That works out to at least one 12-ounce can per day for every man, woman and child.
Not only are soft drinks widely available everywhere, from fast food restaurants to video stores, they're now sold in 60 percent of all public and private middle schools and high schools nationwide, according to the National Soft Drink Association. A few schools are even giving away soft drinks to students who buy school lunches.
As soda pop becomes the beverage of choice among the nation's young -- and as soda marketers focus on brand-building among younger and younger consumers -- public health officials, school boards, parents, consumer groups and even the soft drink industry are faced with nagging questions:
  • How healthful are these beverages, which provide a lot calories, sugars and caffeine but no significant nutritional value? 
  • And what happens if you drink a lot of them at a very young age?
Recently, representatives of the soft drink industry, concerned that public opinion and public policy may turn against them, will staged a three-day "fly-in" to lobby Congress to maintain soft drinks sales in schools; and to educate lawmakers on the "proper perspective" on soft drink use.
The industry plans to counter a US Department of Agriculture proposal, announced in January, that would require all foods sold in schools to meet federal nutrition standards. That would mean that snack foods and soft drinks would have to meet the same standards as school lunches.
Nearly everyone by now has heard the litany on the presumed health effects of soft drinks:
  • Obesity
  • Tooth decay
  • Caffeine dependence
  • Weakened bones
But does drinking soda pop really cause those things?
To help separate fact from fiction, the Health section reviewed the latest scientific findings and asked an array of experts on both sides of the debate to weigh in on the topic. Be forewarned, however: Compared with the data available on tobacco and even dietary fat, the scientific evidence on soft drinks is less developed. The results can be a lot like soft drinks themselves, both sweet and sticky.
Obesity
One very recent, independent, peer-reviewed study demonstrates a strong link between soda consumption and childhood obesity.
One previous industry-supported, unpublished study showed no link. Explanations of the mechanism by which soda may lead to obesity have not yet been proved, though the evidence for them is strong.
Many people have long assumed that soda -- high in calories and sugar, low in nutrients -- can make kids fat. But until this month there was no solid, scientific evidence demonstrating this.
Reporting in The Lancet, a British medical journal, a team of Harvard researchers presented the first evidence linking soft drink consumption to childhood obesity. They found that 12-year-olds who drank soft drinks regularly were more likely to be overweight than those who didn't.
For each additional daily serving of sugar-sweetened soft drink consumed during the nearly two-year study, the risk of obesity increased 1.6 times.
Obesity experts called the Harvard findings important and praised the study for being prospective. In other words, the Harvard researchers spent 19 months following the children, rather than capturing a snapshot of data from just one day. It's considered statistically more valuable to conduct a study over a long period of time.
Researchers found that schoolchildren who drank soft drinks consumed almost 200 more calories per day than their counterparts who didn't down soft drinks. That finding helps support the notion that we don't compensate well for calories in liquid form.
Tooth Decay
Here's one health effect that even the soft drink industry admits, grudgingly, has merit. In a carefully worded statement, the NSDA says that "there's no scientific evidence that consumption of sugars per se has any negative effect other than dental caries." But the association also correctly notes that soft drinks aren't the sole cause of tooth decay.
In fact, a lot of sugary foods, from fruit juices to candy and even raisins and other dried fruit, have what dentists refer to as "cariogenic properties," which is to say they can cause tooth decay.
Okay, so how many more cavities are soft drink consumers likely to get compared with people who don't drink soda? This is where it gets complicated.
A federally funded study of nearly 3,200 Americans 9 to 29 years old conducted between 1971 and 1974 showed a direct link between tooth decay and soft drinks. Numerous other studies have shown the same link throughout the world, from Sweden to Iraq.
But sugar isn't the only ingredient in soft drinks that causes tooth problems. The acids in soda pop are also notorious for etching tooth enamel in ways that can lead to cavities. "Acid begins to dissolve tooth enamel in only 20 minutes," notes the Ohio Dental Association in a release issued earlier this month.
Caffeine Dependence
The stimulant properties and dependence potential of caffeine in soda are well documented, as are their effects on children.
Ever tried going without your usual cup of java on the weekend? If so, you may have experienced a splitting headache, a slight rise in blood pressure, irritability and maybe even some stomach problems.
These well-documented symptoms describe the typical withdrawal process suffered by about half of regular caffeine consumers who go without their usual dose.
The soft drink industry agrees that caffeine causes the same effects in children as adults, but officials also note that there is wide variation in how people respond to caffeine. The simple solution, the industry says, is to choose a soda pop that is caffeine-free. All big soda makers offer products with either low or no caffeine.
That may be a good idea, though it raises the question of whether soda machines in schools should be permitted to offer caffeinated beverages or at least be obligated to offer a significant proportion of caffeine-free products.
It also raises the question of how one determines a product's caffeine content. Nutrition labels are not required to divulge that information. If a beverage contains caffeine, it must be included in the ingredient list, but there's no way to tell how much a beverage has, and there's little logic or predictability to the way caffeine is deployed throughout a product line.
Okay, so most enlightened consumers already know that colas contain a fair amount of caffeine. It turns out to be 35 to 38 milligrams per 12-ounce can, or roughly 28 percent of the amount found in an 8-ounce cup of coffee. But few know that diet colas -- usually chosen by those who are trying to dodge calories and/or sugar -- often pack a lot more caffeine.
A 12-ounce can of Diet Coke, for example, has about 42 milligrams of caffeine -- seven more than the same amount of Coke Classic. A can of Pepsi One has about 56 milligrams of caffeine -- 18 milligrams more than both regular Pepsi and Diet Pepsi.
Even harder to figure out is the caffeine distribution in other flavors of soda pop. Many brands of root beer contain no caffeine. An exception is Barq's, made by the Coca-Cola Co., which has has 23 milligrams per 12-ounce can. Sprite, 7-Up and ginger ale are caffeine-free. But Mountain Dew, the curiously named Mello Yellow, Sun Drop Regular, Jolt and diet as well as regular Sunkist orange soda all pack caffeine.
Caffeine occurs naturally in kola nuts, an ingredient of cola soft drinks. But why is this drug, which is known to create physical dependence, added to other soft drinks?
The industry line is that small amounts are added for taste, not for the drug's power to sustain demand for the products that contain it. Caffeine's bitter taste, they say, enhances other flavors. "It has been a part of almost every cola -- and pepper-type beverage -- since they were first formulated more than 100 years ago," according to the National Soft Drink Association.
But recent blind taste tests conducted by Roland Griffiths at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions in Baltimore found that only 8 percent of regular soft drink consumers could identify the difference between regular and caffeine-free soft drinks.
The study included only subjects who reported that they drank soft drinks mainly for their caffeine content. In other words, more than 90 percent of the self-diagnosed caffeine cravers in this small sample could not detect the presence of caffeine.
That's why the great popularity of caffeinated soft drinks is driven not so much by subtle taste effects as by the mood-altering and physical dependence of caffeine that drives the daily self-administration.
And the unknown could be especially troublesome for the developing brains of children and adolescents. Logic dictates that when you are dependent on a drug, you are really upsetting the normal balances of neurochemistry in the brain. The fact that kids have withdrawal signs and symptoms when the caffeine is stopped is a good indication that something has been profoundly disturbed in the brain.
Exactly where that leads is anybody's guess -- which is to say there is little good research on the effects of caffeine on kids' developing brains.
Bone Weakening
Animal studies demonstrate that phosphorus, a common ingredient in soda, can deplete bones of calcium.
And two recent human studies suggest that girls who drink more soda are more prone to broken bones. The industry denies that soda plays a role in bone weakening.
Animal studies -- mostly involving rats -- point to clear and consistent bone loss with the use of cola beverages. But as scientists like to point out, humans and rats are not exactly the same.
Even so, there's been concern among the research community, public health officials and government agencies over the high phosphorus content in the US diet. Phosphorus -- which occurs naturally in some foods and is used as an additive in many others -- appears to weaken bones by promoting the loss of calcium. With less calcium available, the bones become more porous and prone to fracture.
The soft drink industry argues that the phosphoric acid in soda pop contributes only about 2 percent of the phosphorus in the typical US diet, with a 12-ounce can of soda pop averaging about 30 milligrams.
There's growing concern that even a few cans of soda today can be damaging when they are consumed during the peak bone-building years of childhood and adolescence. A 1996 study published in the Journal of Nutrition by the FDA's Office of Special Nutritionals noted that a pattern of high phosphorus/low calcium consumption, common in the American diet, is not conducive to optimizing peak bone mass in young women.
A 1994 Harvard study of bone fractures in teenage athletes found a strong association between cola beverage consumption and bone fractures in 14-year-old girls. The girls who drank cola were about five times more likely to suffer bone fractures than girls who didn't consume soda pop.
Besides, to many researchers, the combination of rising obesity and bone weakening has the potential to synergistically undermine future health. Adolescents and kids don't think long-term. But what happens when these soft-drinking people become young or middle-aged adults and they have osteoporosis, sedentary living and obesity?
By that time, switching to water, milk or fruit juice may be too little, too late.

EBT food stamp system crash is inevitable; here's why

(NaturalNews) Thank you to all those who shared and supported our feature article from yesterday about the EBT card recipient ransacking of Wal-Mart stores in Louisiana. With stories like that, Natural News has gained a reputation for stating things that everyone is thinking but few have the courage to print.

I also want to thank James Wesley Rawles over at SurvivalBlog.com for his important comment on the story, where he stated, "Keep in mind: A nationwide grid power failure would also mean a nationwide EBT card system failure. If and when this happens, it will not be pretty." He's right, and I'll explain why in this article.

Consensus is now quite strong among the well-informed (i.e. people who read the alternative media) that the downfall of the EBT system will be the downfall of civility across America. Thanks to Obama's disastrous economic policies, nearly 50 million Americans are now on food stamps, and the program is on track to double by the time Obama leaves office. Obama will go down in history as the only president to have doubled the national debt and the food stamp program at the same time.

As the Wal-Mart ransacking in Louisiana just demonstrated, people will clear the shelves and engage in mass theft if they believe they can do so with a minimal risk of getting caught. This is no longer debatable. We just saw it happen in a short-term, localized test case.

What's on many people's minds right now is whether the EBT card system is vulnerable to other glitches, failures or defaults. That's what this article attempts to answer.

Let me thank you in advance for sharing this article with others who need to know this information. I believe this knowledge can save lives. Those who face reality and prepare for the inevitable EBT debit card crash have a far better chance of surviving it than people who had no idea this could happen.

EBT crash possibility #1) Computer code failures

The EBT card glitch that happened last Saturday was due to a failed computer code update that cratered parts of the system. They were able to recover the system in just a few hours, but the ransacking had already begun in Louisiana and could have quickly spread if things hadn't been reversed.

As the disastrous launch of Healthcare.gov has vividly demonstrated, government IT programs are quite capable of crashing and burning, even if over half a billion dollars has been plowed into them.

The EBT card system, however, has the advantage of being primarily administered by the Xerox Corporation, a company with a significant history of competency in transactional IT projects. My honest assessment is that as long as Xerox runs this program, it is very unlikely to fail due to incompetent IT administration problems. Xerox, in other words, has a pretty good handle on running this system and I don't see it cratering due to any failures on their part.

However, if the project were to be taken away from Xerox and, for example, handed over to the same team that built Healthcare.gov, then you could reasonably expect disastrous failures to begin appearing.

EBT crash possibility #2) Failure of the power grid

As James Wesley Rawles rightly points out, all EBT card systems depend on the power grid to function. If the power grid fails, EBT cards become useless.

This is a bigger deal than you might first suppose. Power grid failures can be caused by all sorts of events far outside the control of the U.S. government (or Xerox, for that matter). For example, an unfortunate solar flare could cause a powerful EMP spike that blows out the tens of thousands of transformers currently serving the power grid. That would take the grid offline for a year or more. A new plan was proposed to retrofit the power grid with new hardware that would defend against an EMP-induced failure, but it would take decades to implement.

EMP weapons can also produce a similarly disastrous effect, and North Korea, a nuclear-capable nation, has already threatened to launch a high-altitude ballistic missile with the intention of detonating it high above North America, causing an EMP spike across much of the nation.

Power grids can also fail due to acts of sabotage, incompetent power companies, acts of war, government-forced shutdowns, natural disasters and other causes. To think that the civility of every U.S. city now depends almost entirely on a fully-functioning power grid is a frightening thought...

EBT crash possibility #3) Financial default of the government

Here's an outcome that's inevitable. If the EBT system isn't crashed by technical failures or a failed power grid, sooner or later it will be abandoned as the U.S. government goes into financial default.

This outcome is unavoidable but the timetable is very difficult to predict (it could be weeks, months or years). What we do know is that anyone who can do basic math recognizes the inevitable financial default for the U.S. government. That's because:

• Government "revenue" through taxation is just over $2 trillion per year.

• Government debt on the books right now is approaching $17 trillion, or roughly 800% more than the government's annual income. This would be equivalent to a person making $50K per year owing $400,000 on his credit cards. See real-time debt figures at USdebtclock.org.

• Government's "unfunded liabilities" (i.e. promises to pay social security, federal retirement pensions, Medicare, etc.) are over $125 trillion. Nobody wants to talk about this number because it spells the total financial doom of the United States of America. This is not a popular topic among denialists who kid themselves into thinking the U.S. empire will never fall.

In summary, a government that takes in about $2 trillion per year actually owes over $140 trillion in debts and obligations, meaning that if the government stopped spending ALL money right now -- that is, it permanently shut down and stopped operating -- it would take roughly 70 years of taxes just to pay off its current debts.

This is equivalent to someone making $50K per year who owes $3.5 million on his credit cards.

It is abundantly obvious that the U.S. government will, sooner or later, collapse into financial default. When that day comes, the EBT system will become worthless for one of two reasons. Either A) The system will be taken offline because there's nothing left to fund it, or B) The system will be funded with hyperinflated currency that are suddenly worthless in the marketplace due to rapid price inflation. (Classic price hyperinflation combined with rapid currency devaluation.)

But just as importantly, all federal financial obligations will be null and void in such a scenario, including all federal pensions, health care plans, social security payments veterans' benefits and so on. All of this can (and will) collapse. This is not even a difficult prediction. It is an inevitability. As sure as the sun comes up, the U.S. government will collapse into financial default sooner or later. There is no way out of the seemingly infinite debt people like Obama have placed on our shoulders.

The social chaos that follows such a collapse will obviously be immense. About half the U.S. population depends in one way or another on government programs, pensions, contracts or other payouts. The day all those become null and void is the day you don't want to be caught in, say, downtown Los Angeles.

The fall of the U.S. empire will one day be looked upon with the same curiosity that we now assign to the fall of Rome.

EBT crash possibility #4) Hacker sabotage

It is possible, although unlikely, that hackers might be able to sabotage the EBT card system. Cyber warfare is very real, and China in particular is advancing its technical skills in this fast-expanding realm of warfare.

From an enemy's point of view, crashing the EBT system would be a tactically efficient way to place a devastating social, economic and law enforcement strain on the nation. It might even serve as the opening salvo to follow-up cyber attacks on water treatment facilities and nuclear power plants.

Imagine waking up one day and discovering the food stamp system has crashed, the municipal water supply doesn't work and your local nuclear power plant is leaking radiation. That's the kind of scenario an enemy nation armed with hackers could unleash.

If you think this is a far-fetched scenario, check out this news: "A hacking group accused of being operated by the Chinese army now seems to be going after industrial control systems," declares a Technology Review article.

It goes on to say, "The group, known as APT1, was caught by a research project that provides the most significant proof yet that people are actively trying to exploit the vulnerabilities in industrial control systems."

EBT crash possibility #5) Intentional government false flag to cause chaos

Here's the final way by which the EBT system could crash: an intentional government shutdown.

As we just saw with the Obama administration's barricading of World War II memorials and the arrest of veterans, today's U.S. government is actively engaged in punishing the American people in order to achieve its political goals.

To pull off this attack on America, whatever administration occupies the White House could simply order the EBT system to be shut down in exactly the same way Obama recently ordered national parks to be shut down (as part of a contrived, staged federal shutdown theater operation).

What would be the point of such an action? To create social chaos, obviously, from which government would first blame its enemies for the "attack" and then declare martial law to seize control of all power, including control of the internet, all farms and food, all news broadcast organizations, firearms and more. The executive orders have already been put into place for the federal government to seize all private assets in an emergency.

This is classic Orwellian social control, but it's also a tried-and-true tactic used by governments throughout the history of the world. If you don't yet realize how frequently this tactic is invoked by governments, you may not well-schooled in real history. Nor even U.S. history. How do you suppose the NSA got the funding to build its massive surveillance system that now spies on all Americans' phone calls, emails and social media activities? It was authorized by the Patriot Act. And how do you think consensus was engineered for the Patriot Act in the first place?

If Obama gets into real trouble with a possible impeachment over the next few years, watch for a staged EBT card crash (or some other disastrous event) to reassert federal power. On a philosophical note, this is precisely why a nation of people dependent on the government is a weak nation. A nation of people who cannot grow at least a part of their own diet is a nation with a deep strategic vulnerability that can be exploited by anyone who wants to cause widespread social chaos. Obama's ongoing attacks on raw milk farmers, home gardens and other self-sustaining food production is actually contributing to that strategic vulnerability by destroying local food redundancy.

In World War II, Americans were encouraged to grow "victory gardens" and become independently resilient. Today, Obama encourages Americans to enroll in the federal food stamp program and thereby surrender food security while becoming slaves to a system whose failure is inevitable.

At Least 139 Girls Have Died From HPV Vaccination

In an speech given at the 4th International Public Conference on Vaccination which took place in Reston, Virginia on October 2 – 4, 2009, an unlikely announcement was given by lead vaccine researcher, Dr. Diane Harper. The key researcher in the development of the human papilloma virus vaccines, Gardasil and Cervariz, came forward and spoke the truth regarding lack of effectiveness the vaccines offer.

Reportedly her speech was supposed to support the Gardasil and Cervarix vaccines, but she instead publicly turned on her corporate bosses. When questioned about the presentation, it seems the resounding effect of her truthful analysis on the safety of the vaccinations had the audience second guessing the usefulness of the shots.

Joan Robinson who attended the conference stated: “I came away from the talk with the perception that the risk of adverse side effects is so much greater than the risk of cervical cancer, I couldn’t help but question why we need the vaccine at all!”

Dr. Harper’s presentation shared that the cervical cancer risk in the U.S. is already extremely low, and the vaccinations are unlikely to have any effect upon the rate of cervical cancer in the United States. In fact, 70% of all H.P.V. infections resolve themselves without treatment in a year, and the number rises to well over 90% in two years. Harper also spoke about the safety concern.

The vaccine trials were tested on children aged 15 and above, despite them currently being marketed for 9-year-olds. Alongside that, 15,037 girls have reported adverse side effects from Gardasil alone according to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (V.A.E.R.S.); keep in mind, this statistic only represents the patients who also underwent the hurdles required for reporting adverse side effects. And shockingly, at the present moment – according to the latest V.A.E.R.S. Report – 139 deaths from girls treated with the HPV related vaccinations are officially known.  At the time of Dr. Harper’s speech, it was recorded to be 44 deaths.

Unpleasant side effects range from contracting Guillian Barre Syndrome (paralysis lasting for years, or permanently – sometimes eventually causing suffocation), lupus, seizures, blood clots and brain inflammation. Most, parents and teens, are unaware of these risks.

Dr. Harper, the vaccine developer, claimed she was speaking out so she ‘might finally be able to sleep at night’. In her own words “About eight in every ten women who have been sexually active will have H.P.V. at some stage of their life. Normally there are no symptoms, and in 98 percent of cases it clears itself. But in those cases where it doesn’t, and isn’t treated, it can lead to pre-cancerous cells which may develop into cervical cancer.”

It’s a stunning act of courage for the developer of the vaccination to come forward against the pressure of the corporation and it’s financial investment; sharing the health implications vaccinations may pose could save lives.

Shockingly, it seems there is no actual evidence that the vaccine can prevent any cancer anyway. From the manufacturer’s own admissions, the vaccine only works on 4 strains out of 40 for a specific venereal disease that dies on its own in a relatively short period. Therefore the chance of it actually helping an individual is about the same as the chance as him being struck by a meteorite.

In a more in-depth examination of her speech, Dr. Harper makes clear the opinion that young women and families should receive more complete warnings before receiving the vaccines to prevent cervical cancer. Wisely, she states that in more developing countries it is no doubt a larger concern and the vaccine may be useful, but with only a fraction of undisclosed deaths from the trials given to the CDC in research, she felt the importance of speaking out.

Perhaps you are now wondering why 9-year-olds are needing vaccination for extremely rare and symptom-less venereal diseases that the immune system usually kills; so are many others.

There is no doubt HPV vaccinations may have helped a small number, but the inaccurate and lesser known effectiveness of the drugs has been hidden from the mass public. In 1976, the anti-cancer activity of graviola leaves (soursop’s alternate name is graviola) was first noted by the National Cancer Institute, stating that “The NCI, or the National Cancer Institute did some research on the guanabana cancer cure [sic] and came up with some interesting results. The study…showed that the leaves and stems of the plant were incredibly efficient at destroying certain cancerous cells in the body.” This study was not publicly released, however, subsequent research on graviola conducted at Purdue University has proven promising results.

Much of Purdue’s research focused on the anti-tumour properties of annonaceous acetogenins. Oberlies, Chang, and McLaughlin found that tumour cells that are resistant to chemotherapy treatment, or, multi-drug resistant (MDR) cells, were effectively destroyed by acetogenins. MDR cells develop resistance to all chemotherapy treatments, leaving the patient at a dead end. MDR cells require incredible amounts of cellular energy (Adenosine triphosphate; ATP) in order to rid themselves of these chemotherapeutic drugs. This made MDR cancer cells prime targets for acetogenins that were found to effectively block ATP transfer into these cells, inhibiting their function in a way that eventually leads to cell death.

It is important to note as well, that researchers who have explored the mechanisms used by graviola are only  specific to cancerous cells, and not healthy cells. Why? Because cancer cells have a consistently higher level of cellular activity, and thus produce a much higher level of ATP, and is better recognized and targeted by the acetogenin molecules. This is of benefit to the user since chemotherapy targets BOTH normal (such as stomach and hair cells) and cancerous cells, causing the often devastating side effects of nausea, weight loss, hair loss, and overall low quality of life for cancer patients. Graviola only targets cancerous cells, thus our other cells are left untouched.

One study conducted at the Catholic University of South Korea and published in the Journal of Natural Products stated that graviola was 10,000 times more effective against cancer than the popular chemotherapy drug, Adriamycin. A second study from South Korea showed that graviola had no negative activity on healthy cells (unlike the devastating effects Adriamycin has on the body), as we saw previously.

Lei Gong Teng
This plant’s ability to cure cancer only recently came into light when researchers at the University of Minnesota’s Masonic Cancer Centre found that compounds from this plant wiped out pancreatic tumours in mice, and showed no signs of tumours after 40 days or after discontinuing the treatment.

The natural compound, triptolide, found in lei gong teng, has been shown in numerous studies to induce apoptosis (cell death) in cancerous cells. In one study, the apoptosis induced by triptolide was mediated by up-regulating the expression of a gene associated with apoptosis called caspase-3 and bax, making triptolide a potential treatment for cancers of the pancreas.

“This drug is just unbelievably potent in killing tumour cells,” said Ashok Saluja, a vice chairman of research at the Masonic Cancer Centre. “You could see that every day you looked at those mice, the tumour was decreasing and decreasing, and then just gone.”

Unfortunately, researchers have now found a way to isolate triptolide into a new drug called minnelide, which is a modified form of the diterpenoid compound triptolide, isolated from the thunder god vine. Under normal circumstances, Big Pharma would not be able to make any money off the thunder god vine, since you cannot patent nature. With this new drug, minnelide, however, Big Pharma will get a big FDA stamp of approval which will allow the newly patented, nutritionally ruined triptolide to be sold for hundreds and thousands of dollars.

Instead, just take the herb itself! There is no need for isolating compounds from a plant, when you can simply purchase the plant itself and consume it fresh and un-tampered.

Mangosteen
The variety of phytonutrients in mangosteen are plenty. In fact, the mangosteen is one of the only fruits that contain high levels of xanthones (xanthones are found in small amounts throughout nature, however it is most concentrated in the mangosteen rind). What are xanthones? Most of us are used to seeing and eating the typical white or yellow fleshed potatoes. You may even eat sweet potatoes on a regular basis and so you might be accustomed to orange as well. But purple potatoes are certainly not as popular, although given the deep rich color of these potatoes, more of us should be familiar with these potatoes for the powerful nutrients they pack.

Native to South America, purple potatoes got their name due to their deep purple skin and flesh. There are several types of the purple potato including the Purple Majesty, Purple Viking and Purple Peruvian varieties. Purple potatoes are rich in antioxidant phytochemicals and studies show that purple potatoes can aid in lowering blood pressure.

As with any fruit or vegetable, the deep rich colors they offer tell us how nutrient dense they are. When choosing which vegetables to add to our diet, a mix of colors is always a good rule of thumb to be sure we are getting a variety of nutrients to meet our bodies needs. Monsanto is an American multinational corporation founded in the early 1900′s by John Francis Queeny. It’s no coincidence that he was a veteran of the pharmaceutical industry. Monsanto and the people that govern it hide behind the classification of multinational corporations and political labels in order to implement their desired agenda. Why on Earth is our food being manufactured by the largest pesticide company in the world?  Food is supposed to give us health and nourishment, but today our food contains toxins that are without question a major threat to our health. Toxic chemicals are added to our food supply simply through production, harmful pesticide residue and genetic engineering of seeds and crops. Even food packaging can be a source of toxins in food. Why are we allowing poisonous and toxic chemicals to enter into our food supply? What type of corporation would try to persuade the population that it is a good thing? Monsanto would, it’s no coincidence that the food, pharmaceutical and medical industries are so well connected. The most common argument against this fact is “well, I don’t know”, which is not much of an argument at all. In fact, everything we use in our daily lives can often be traced back to a group of families and the corporations they run.

1. Monsanto purposely puts small farmers out of business

Monsanto has shut down many small farms via lawsuits because their patented crop was found on the farms. While it was only small percentages of the crop that were Monsanto’s seeds, they were able to get a ruling in their favor regardless of the fact that Monsanto was accused for purposely putting their seed onto farmers land as well as the fact that Monsanto crop pollen from nearby farms can easily blow onto other farms who are not using Monsanto crop. Percy Schmeiser is a Canadian farmer whose canola fields were contaminated with Monsanto’s Round-Up Ready Canola by pollen from a nearby GMO farm. Monsanto successfully argued in a lawsuit that Schmeiser violated their patent rights, and forced Schmeiser to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages.This type of biotech bullying is happening all over North America. Monsanto performed no independent tests as their tests were all performed in house or by experts hired by the company.

2. Monsanto has multiple connections to the government
Most people are aware that multinational corporations (like Monsanto) are above the government when it comes to the hierarchical  pyramidal structure of control that we see on the planet today. We are living in a corporatocracy, not a democracy,our entire economic, political, health, energy, and educational industries are controlled by corporations and the people that hide behind them.

Toby Moffett –  Toby Moffett is the chairman of the Moffett Group. The Moffett group is a government relations and strategic consulting firm in Washington, DC. He is a former member of the U.S. House of Representatives.  He is the liaison between clients and the congress, the Obama administration as well as other federal agencies. Toby Moffett is a former NBC news anchor, as well as former Vice President of Monsanto, and currently serves as a Monsanto consultant.

Margaret Miller - Dr Margaret Miller was a Dep Director for the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) For Bush Sr as well as Bill Clinton. She has worked as in the health and food departments of the World Health Organization (WHO). The FDA and WHO are responsible for the creation of codex alimentarius, an organization that defines the required toxins and chemicals to put in our food.

Michael Taylor - Michael Taylor is the deputy commissioner for Foods at at the FDA, appointed by Obama. He is also the VP for public policy at Monsanto, the same man in charge of GMO’s being put into our food supply.

More ties can be made to all industries that govern our life on this planet. Our media, health, education, and energy industries are all owned and operated by the same people, it’s a revolving door.

We are in the process of transparency, if one is truly passionate and curious about how the world operates, all the information and events are there to see. It’s not hard to do a little research and make connections, if one does so I am sure everybody who does will find that the current way of life on our planet does not resonate with them. We created this whole experience on the planet, and we have the freedom to change it anytime we desire. Waking up to the major industries around us that we use to govern our life, and how they operate is something that can no longer be ignored.
