3 Day Juice Cleanse & Recipes

Natural Cures Not Medicine on Facebook: www.facebook.com/naturalcuresnotmedicine

Okay, ready? Let’s go.

I usually juice for about 5-6 days. 2 years ago when I first started, it was a 3 day cleanse. Which really means 9 days… because there is a 3 day pre cleanse and 3 day post cleanse schedule that I follow. That means, in the 3 days leading up to the cleanse, I cut out basically everything except fruits and veggies. I eat lots of loaded salads with different veggies, drink boat loads of tea, and obscene amounts of water to prepare myself.

So once I’ve got the 3 days of pre-cleansing under my belt, it’s time to hop into the juicing stage. Let’s talk equipment. I have the Breville Slow Juicer. It’s amazing. I’m obsessed and I like the “slow” juicers because you actually extract more fiber and nutrients from the fruits and veggies which gives you more pulp and gives you a bit of a thicker juice and all that jazz.

So during my 3, 4, 5, or 6 days of “juicing” I drink about 6 glasses of juice a day and 6 glasses of water. I make 3 kinds of juice and for lack of better names, I call them by color:

Green Juice

Red Juice

Orange Juice

I usually have 3 large glasses of green juice, 2 orange juices and 1 red juice. And then there is the strawberry almond milk I have at the end of they day.

So here’s what a day would look like for me:
7:00 am wake up – drink some white ginger tea

8:00 am – Green Juice #1

10:00 Orange Juice #1

12:00 Green Juice #2

2:00 Red Juice #1

4:00 Green Juice #2

6:00 Orange Juice #2

8:00 Almond Milk and some more white ginger tea

And that’s about it. Then it’s off to bed where my dreams are usually filled with food. Just kidding, kinda, not really. It’s hard when I live in the food world not to dream about food!!

Post juice cleanse I slowly work my body back onto normal food. I eat lots of raw veggies to start and then slowly work in fruits, quinoa, farro etc. I usually try to stay off of meat for a few more days because that’s just how I roll. And I can promise you when you work your way around to having a burger post juice cleanse – it’s going to be the most delicious thing in the whole wide world. Omg. Seriously.

If you’re new to juicing, I’d say start with a 3 day cleanse. They aren’t easy – and you want to make sure you aren’t going crazy all the time! So I vote for starting on the shorter side and seeing how your body reacts. And for sure, don’t skip the pre and post cleanse – I’ve done it before and it’s not pretty. Your body basically kicks you in the stomach. Trust me.

Day 1 is always the hardest for me because I am “head” hungry. Which basically means I think I’m hungry… but really I’m not. I’m just bored and want to eat. Truth is, I’m packing my body with so many micro nutrients, it has plenty to run on. I just start day dreaming about grilled cheese sandwiches and then I go crazy. So if you’re juicing, you should probably stay off the food section of Pinterest. By day 2 I feel like a million bucks. I sleep better at night, wake up in the morning ready to go. (I literally jump out of bed and Thomas thinks I’m a crazy person) Okay and this might sound weird, but you actually see things more clearly. Not figuratively… I mean literally. Things are sharp and crisp and you’re just ready to take on the day!

So… you might be wondering why I juice? Well, I love it. I do it about every 2-3 months as a way to re-set my body and let it rest. And have you guys ever seen that movie, Fat Sick and Nearly Dead? It’s kinda life changing. I’d highly recommend it if you’re into this kinda thing. It’s super inspiring.

Alright. Ready for some recipes… I am going to give you recipes for all 4 of the liquids I drink during the cleanse. And each recipe is enough for 1 glass.

Is Your Body Toxic? (Foods That Detox)

Natural Cures Not Medicine on Facebook: www.facebook.com/naturalcuresnotmedicine.com

Is your body toxic?

The answer in most cases is yes. Depending on what you eat your body could be building up toxic chemicals deep within your body. Eating the right foods can reverse the build up and damage.

Here are some foods to eat to help your body detox!

The blue links are previous articles from NCNM if you wish to learn more click them:

Limes, flaxseed oil, brussels sprouts, kale, avocado oil, broccoli sprouts, blue green algae, olive oil, coconut oil, hemp oil, alfalfa sprouts, arugula, garlic, spinach, lemons, spirulina, onions, cabbage, turmeric, chard, wheatgrass. Eat foods that support the body's ability to naturally detox!

The Best Foods For Detox:

So you have made the decision to go through a detoxification process. The elimination of fast foods, red meats, pork, junk foods, sugary drinks - but wait. What's left to eat? There is plenty left to eat, and once you get the junk out of your system and start eating right during your detox, chances are you probably will not want to go back to you old habits. You will find that once you start your detox, there are lots of healthy and nutritious detox foods to eat. These foods will help you in the process of the detoxification of your system.

To begin you will want to keep yourself well hydrated. You will want to drink lots of water and juices. Try to discipline yourself to stay away from sugary, and caffeinated drinks as much as possible. There are a variety of juices to choose from including fresh fruits, and vegetable juices that you can make at home. Herbal tea is also a great source in assisting the detox process.

To take advantage and maximize the time and discipline dedicated to your detox, and to achieve maximum results, you will want to have a diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables. Suggestions for rich detox foods are: broccoli, red and green vegetables, cauliflower, beets, onions and garlic.

Beans are an important detox food and a major source of protein and are a great source of fiber. Suggestions for your detox are kidney beans, pinto beans, garbanzo and soybeans. It is very difficult to go wrong with legumes, so pad your new diet with this source.

When considering your detox foods, instead of eating white rice and pasta, substitute these products with brown basmati rice, or other brown grains. And try focusing on enjoying lighter, smaller meals. Vegetable based soups and salads are light, but can be filling as a meal.

Experiment with dishes and try eating a fresh vegetable platter with no meat. Look at the colors on your plate from now on. The more colors on your plate in terms of your fruits and vegetables, the healthier you are generally eating. If you find yourself craving grains, trying a dish of brown basmati rice with fresh green beans, and cream of mushroom soup, combined into a casserole. As a side dish, slice up a fresh tomato and garnish with a small amount of olive oil and vinegar. Once you complete detoxing you are going to find that you don't miss meat as much as you thought you would. You will begin to feel lighter in your center, and have much more energy that tends to accompany this feeling.

An area that is tough for most people once they start the cleansing procedure is in the area of snack foods. Instead of snacking on chips, candy and cookies, try to snack on nuts and seeds as a healthier source. Suggestions include sunflower seeds, flaxseeds, pumpkin seeds, almonds, cashews, and walnuts.

Try to avoid fried foods during this detox period. Get in the habit of eating lots of baked fish, preferably organic. Chose healthy oils like Coconut oil, lose the bad oils (most that are in the supermarket).

When you choose to eat fresh greens such as salads, avoid salad dressings and try using olive oil and a small amount of vinegar. Minimize adding salt to all of your foods.

Avoid processed cakes and cookies and other such flour-based products during your detox.

Most importantly before you start a detox process consult your physician. Plan your detox so that it is done at a convenient time. You don't want to shock your body, so begin to make gradual changes once you have made up your mind that it is time to "clean house." And by all means, ensure that you are properly hydrated during the process.

Natural Detox and Immune Boosting Tonic

A great natural detox and immune boosting tonic:

This concoction of Nature's Super Antibiotics destroys both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. It is also a potent anti-viral and anti-fungal/yeast formula, and will increase blood and lymph circulation to every part of the body. It is so effective that it is said to be the cure for colds and the flu, and is the herbal preparation of choice against Candida. This basic formula dates back to medieval Europe and the plagues.

Benefit of each Ingredient: (All Organic Of Course!!)
  • Garlic is a broad spectrum antibiotic. Unlike chemical antibiotics that kill off millions of friendly bacteria that your body needs, Garlic only targets the invading bacteria and even promotes and increases your healthy bacteria. Garlic is also a powerful anti-fungal and literally destroys any antigen, pathogen and any harmful or disease causing micro-organism.
  • Onion is Garlic's next of kin and has similar but milder action. Together they are a tremendous fighting duo.
  • Horseradish is a potent herb for the sinus and lungs. It opens up the sinus passages and increases the circulation there, where most doctors agree, the common cold and influenza often starts.
  • Ginger contains powerful anti-inflammatory properties and is a tremendous circulatory stimulant.
  • Cayenne (Peppers) is the most powerful circulatory propellant known. It simply sends the antibiotic and disease fighting properties of the other herbs where they're needed most.
  • Turmeric clears infection and reduces inflammation inside of the body. It blocks cancer from developing. Especially helpful for those with joint pain.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar (I use Braggs Organic ACV)  There surely must be something really healthy in using apple cider vinegar, since The Father of Medicine, Hippocrates, used this vinegar around 400 B.C. for its health giving qualities. It is said that he had only two remedies: honey and apple cider vinegar.
DIRECTION FOR MAKING YOUR OWN!

  • 1 30 oz. bottle Organic Apple Cider Vinegar(I recommend Braggs ACV)
  • 1/4 cup chopped Garlic
  • 1/4 cup Onions
  • 1/4 cup Habanero peppers (or hottest peppers you can find)
  • 1/4 cup grated Ginger
  • 1/4 cup grated Horseradish
  • 2 T Turmeric

  1. Blend  ingredients together for a couple of minutes
  2. Strain
  3. Pour liquid back in bottle
  4. Compost everything else!

You can store the tonic in a cupboard for long periods of time. No need to keep in the refrigerator. You can also use it mixed with olive oil for a salad dressing.  Or a shot full on your stir fry.

*For sore throat, gargle a bit in the mouth and swallow.
*For an illness, such as a cold or flu, take about 2 droppers full or a Tablespoon every couple of hours.
*For daily immune support drink 2 droppers full/ 1Tablespoon every day. Build up tolerance to a shot glass full.
*Eat an orange, lemon, or lime slice after to ease the heat.
All About Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is made from fresh ripe apples that are fermented and undergo a stringent process to create the final product. The vinegar contains a host of vitamins, beta-carotene, pectin and vital minerals such as potassium, sodium, magnesium, calcium, phosphorous, chlorine, sulphur, iron, and fluorine.

Pectin in the vinegar is a fiber which helps reduce bad cholesterol and helps in regulating blood pressure. The need for calcium supplements once you start growing older is very well known. This vinegar helps extract calcium from the fruits, vegetables and meat it is mixed with, helping in the process of maintaining strong bones. Potassium deficiency causes a variety of ailments including hair loss, weak finger nails, brittle teeth, sinusitis, and a permanently running nose. Apple cider vinegar is loaded with potassium. Studies have shown that potassium deficiency results in stunted growth. All these ailments can be avoided with the intake of apple cider vinegar. The potassium in this vinegar also helps in eliminating toxic waste from the body. The beta-carotene helps in countering damage caused by free radicals, helping one maintain firmer skin and a youthful appearance. Apple cider vinegar is good for those wanting to lose weight. It helps in breaking down fat which helps in natural weight reduction.

Apple cider vinegar contains malic acid which is very helpful in fighting fungal and bacterial infections. This acid dissolves uric acid deposits that form around joints, helping relieve joint pains. This dissolved uric acid is gradually eliminated from the body.
It is claimed that apple cider vinegar is helpful in ailments such as constipation, headaches, arthritis, weak bones, indigestion, high cholesterol, diarrhea, eczema, sore eyes, chronic fatigue, mild food poisoning, hair loss, high blood pressure, obesity, along with a host of many other ailments. No wonder then many know apple cider vinegar as the "Wonder Drug".
