There are two types of gelatin: One is usually made from the hoofs of a cows and other animals. The other is vegetable gelatin.
If Gummy bears are made with either bovine or porcine gelatin they are not suitable for vegetarians or vegans.
Learn how its made: (video below)
Are they clearly labeled which is which?
ReplyDeleteI have very few favorite things, however Goomee Barren is one of them!
Look for Pectin instead of gelatin

Harvard study proves cartilage naturally cures arthritis and consuming tissues like this actually has many health benefits, the shell from shrimp although exo-skeletal is a great example, it kills a wide array of harmful bacteria, companies are trying to patent these natural connective tissues and other elements normally discarded and label them as "Medicine" in order to keep us from being able to harvest this material ourselves! That is a way more interesting story than trying to create a false alarm warning like this... I understand if you are a vegetarian you might want to stay clear of gelatin, but for the rest of the Omnivores out there it is actually very desirable. -Von Stelling
ReplyDeleteShocking! Were you also aware that PLANTS are largely made up of the leftover parts and tissues of animals that have died?? True story.
ReplyDeleteExactly Dave!..Circle of life. Pretty basic. Thanks Doc! I plan on gnawing on some bones tonight...-Von Stelling
DeleteDying of natural causes and being killed to satisfy our hunger are two very different things. Please don't patronize those of us who dislike the way animals with feelings and thoughts are slaughtered so we can have food. Not necessary.
DeleteGelatin from bones is not that bad of a thing, and it shows that the entire animal is being used. Does the west consume more meat and animal product than we should. YES. I am a Chef and i will only use local produce and animals now, big box farming and kill lots are the real danger. If your vegan then i can understand you not wanting to mistake gelatin for pectin. We need to return to old farming standards, limiting of pesticides, no more feedlot animals, a return to natural grazing and an understanding that eating meat and seafood should be something we are thankfull for not someting we take for granted in the form of fast bred, fast raised, fast killed poor animals turned into meat pattes.
DeleteAmen, Guy Guarino. I hate the all or none attitude of this site and its articles. I believe most of us that are not emotionally vegan should support the small, grass fed, humanely raised and slaughtered, farmers, good for you and for them. Here in Idaho we have huge industrialized farming but we also have a dairy with 30 head of cows, and lamb, chicken, beef, pork and elk small farms where the animals graze most of the year on beautiful grass pastures, drink from untainted streams, are humanely housed and never fed corn unless they grow organic. I use 3 oz of meat 4 times per week and only grass fed and finished (doesn't do any good if they are feed lot finished) and some kind of wholesome fish once a week. The rest of the time, I eat fruits and veggies in season grown organically in the NW states. I patronize only a small local dairy with pastured herd. We need to support small farmers and dairy farmers in every way we can. They are under attack by both industrialized, chemical farming and by misguided animal rights organizations. Live simply so all may simply live.
Deleteany kind of animal shit works for fertilizer!! the older the better!!
Deleteany animal shit works as fertilizer, the fresher the better!!
DeleteI don't think they're killing any animals for Gelatin production, it's more like the leftover stuff they weren't going to use anyway.
ReplyDeleteSorry but vegans need to stop complaining about animals. I don't complain about vegans or vegetarians eating the plants that produce oxygen. Stop forcing me to hear do eat anything made from animals propaganda
ReplyDeleteNobody is forcing you.
DeleteWho do you think eats more plants, vegetarians or the animals you eat?
But it's still disgusting.
ReplyDeleteNo wonder they taste so good!
ReplyDeleteNo wonder gummy bears taste so good!
ReplyDeletePeace and blessings one and all it seems that this argument of not eating or eating meat will continue, its all about eating in moderation not over eating allowing the stomach to have its solids beverage and space for air which helps with digestion and have the organic food pesticide gmo free veggies and fruit intended by the ALMIGHTY, happy eating which ever makes you happy
