Foods you must buy organic

Some foods are grown in a way that exposes them to more toxic chemicals than others and some foods are notorious for being exceptionally filthy when you get them at the grocery store.  Here is a list of produce you should make sure you buy organic to avoid the toxins.  They may look healthy, but unless they are organic, they are contaminated:

Kale:  Though a super food, kale is usually heavily contaminated with pesticides.

Lettuce:  More than 50 different pesticides have been found on lettuce.

Potatoes :  More than 35 pesticides have been detected in tests conducted by the USDA.

Grapes:  Imported grapes can have over 30 chemical pesticides and raisins have high pesticide residue tests as well.

Spinach:  Has tested positive for a whopping 50 different chemical pesticides.  Frozen spinach usually has about the same amount.

Strawberries:  A regular on the dirty dozen list, unfortunately these delicious berries have been shown to have over 60 different pesticides on them though frozen strawberries have less.

Apples:  Over 40 chemicals have been found on apples.  Apple sauce and apple juice also contained pesticide residue.

Peaches:  We all love peaches, but not the 60 plus pesticides found on them.  Canned peaches have much less but it is best to go organic.

Celery:  Tests on this crunchy enjoyable veggie turned up over 60 chemicals.

Nectarines:  Overall, 33 different pesticides have been found on these, though domestic grown nectarines tend to be less contaminated then imported fruits.

Bell peppers:  Nearly 50 chemicals on these and every color variety of sweet bell peppers are contaminated.

Blueberries:  Pushing over 50 varieties of chemical residues, these berries should be bought from the organic section.

    1. I would avoid eating those three altogether.

    2. Eggs and meat are wonderful choices if 100% grass fed beef or pasture raised organic cage free from a farmer you know and trust. We have a friend who we buy eggs from and they are wonderful! yum!

    1. People use too many sources instead of just plain old common sense. If you feed an animal unhealthy food (GMO feed), anti-biotics and hormones, YOU will be eating them in higher concentrations. But the unhealthy food supply is weeding out those that rely on all the "sources" instead of their brains. And the medical industry is making a fortune on it!

    2. @fed up - Given that pesticide residues are generally colourless, odourless and and tasteless then 'common sense' won't get you very far in making an informed choice.

Why are you even reading this post if common sense has told you all you need to know?

To answer the original question, I think the original research came from the Environmental working group - http://www.ewg.org/foodnews/

    3. Because the USDA is such a credible entity.

  3. I find it ridiculous that blueberries and bell peppers are a "dirty" food. There is absolutely NO reason to use pesticides or anything else on them. I grow them without anything added--organic or otherwise. So why do conventional farmers spray them?!!!!

    1. Because the more quantities you grow the more bugs they attract. Grow your own if it's possible :)

    2. Mass quantities attract bugs - which is why we just need to grow our own.

  5. Common sense meaning if you are not buying it from a local farmers market or growing them yourself, you are buying (Consciously) toxic food and you know that! !

    1. Just because you are buying at local farmer's markets, doesn't mean that the produce is organic. I know many times I have gone to a market only to find out that the local farmers also spray. You always have to ask.

  6. Over 30,000 pesticides found in the air in every breath you take. Everybody better run out and buy oxygen tanks.

    2. You can't convince these nuts they are not all being poisoned by some imaginary toxin. They are pathetic but I find them very entertaining.

  7. Why does everyone thing that because you are buying from a farmer's market the produce is automatically organic? I have been to many farmer's markets in NJ and found that most of the produce is not organic. You always have to ask if they spray with chemicals.

    2. I hate to say it but I think many farmer's at the markets depend on the ignorance of people to automatically assume that their goods are organic just because they sell them at the farmer's market. I have discovered that at our local farmer's market there is only one true organic farmer there selling stuff. Luckily they have a CSA...without them...like many others with few options we would not have a choice. And seriously I'm so tired of people saying grow your own...like we all just have all the time in the world, do not work and can have green acres in our own backyard. People need other options to purchase these things. There is no shame in buying organic food instead of growing them yourself.

  8. Thank you Darwin - every breath of air we breathe is completely contaminated with environmental toxins. Yes, everyone would love to buy organic food all the time. it is very pricey and very hard to find - oh, and can be loaded with other bacteria. So sick of listening to this. All food is toxic so let's just live in a bubble - oh, and don't breathe the air.

  9. I am amazed of how society feel that food is not their resposibility, or lazy because there is critical thinking involved and knowledge to be acquired.
I really cannot judge but feel very sorry for hurting themselves and especially their children for their prefered state of ignorance. The reason is because mainstream media and corporate propaganda have made us "THINK" this way. That we must rely on departments of [...] to let us know what is good for us because apparently folks simply do not know or is too "hard". Or rely on others for our food, from big box stores to local farmers makets or else we would starve?
We must think outside the box (tv: "according to studies...", buy this, buy that) (stores: "we make it easy for you", "saving money" is more important than your saving your health) (propaganda: buy from our "knowledgable experts", protecting our citizens, everything will be alright as long as you keep buying)
Mainstream and typical society are treating food as a product and a great source to make money. Not a clean organic source for nourishment and survival for humans. Ask yourself why conventional food for the masses need pesticides and genetically modified produce? Why the same company who produces hazardous cancerous chemicals for humans, and animals are modifying food for the masses? Why these same company CEOs and other knowlegable elite will never touch these conventional products? Why?

Grow your own vegetable garden with organic seeds and natural compost, you will be printing your own money, seriously. It doesn't matter if you live in a small apartment, if you have a window you still can. Look it up, please.
Become an idependent, healthy, and an intellingent citizen.
I am spreading the seeds, hope it gets you thinking and conduct your own research, if you dont have time, then please do not watch TV.
