"As thousands of federal employees wait for their furloughs to be lifted, thousands of truckers plan to descend on Washington on Friday morning in an effort to shut it down further by not hauling freight for a whole weekend and causing a massive traffic jam.
Earl Conlon, a Georgia trucker who is handling logistics for "Truckers Ride for the Constitution", told U.S. News that truckers will circle I-495 — the Capital Beltway — “three lanes deep” to express disapproval of Washington’s leadership. A list addressing “corruption against our Constitution” will be delivered to lawmakers before the ride, event organizer Zeeda Andrews told the magazine. Mr. Conlon added that the truckers circling the Beltway will stay at 55 mph and will keep the left lane open for emergency vehicles, but “everybody that doesn’t have a supporter sticker on their window, good luck: Nobody in, nobody out.” According to the washington times: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/oct/8/pro-constitution-truckers-plan-shut-down-dc-beltwa/#ixzz2h9zkLvjsMany say that with this, the government shutdown and the March Against Monsanto, we are in for an action packed weekend.

Brilliant - and about time.
ReplyDeleteJust wish they could do something like this in Norway. We have too much trust in the system and in the state - it is almost as if we no longer have control.
Just like road rage - our image of the car takes over, it is no longer us, the car is the servant, so is the state. Every so often a little reminder is needed, both for us and those running the state.
